How leveraging search insights and cross-functional creative collaboration generated over $545k in 6 months across major e-commerce properties
Musictoday
Overview
During my time at Musictoday, I led data-driven organic growth initiatives across major e-commerce storefronts, including HBO Shop, Star Trek, and As Seen on TV. By mining search behavior and web analytics, I identified high-value keyword opportunities and content gaps that informed not only search optimization, but multi-channel marketing campaigns. Through cross-functional collaboration with copywriters and visual designers, as well as strategic site architecture expansions, we generated over $545,000 in organic revenue in six months.
Objectives
- Uncover Unmet Search Demand: Analyze first-party analytics and search data to identify high-intent category expansions and content opportunities across client storefronts.
- Bridge SEO with Cross-Channel Campaigns: Translate organic keyword insights into engaging, multi-channel content assets for email, social, paid search, and web promotion.
- Expand E-Commerce Site Architecture: Introduce new product categories and taxonomy updates rooted in real organic search volume.
- Drive Measurable Revenue Growth: Deliver immediate Q4 revenue gains through site audit fixes, seasonal campaigns, and evergreen landing pages.
Approach
- Data-Driven Discovery and Research: Used Adobe Analytics, Google Search Console, and BrightEdge to analyze search intent, uncover traffic bottlenecks, and identify high-demand product queries across client stores.
- Cross-Functional Content Campaigns (HBO Shop): Coached copywriters to produce engaging, voice-matched content — “How to Host a Game of Thrones Game Night” and “Which House Do You Fight For?”—featuring themed merchandise. Partnered with a visual designer to build on-brand, evergreen landing pages promoted across paid search ads, organic search, email, and social channels.
- Site Architecture and Category Expansion (Star Trek & As Seen on TV): Uncovered hidden organic demand for unlisted product groupings. Expanded the site taxonomy with dedicated category pages, capturing search traffic that was previously bypassing the stores.
Results and Impact
- $545k Generated in 6 Months: Scaled organic search initiatives across client storefronts, generating more than half a million dollars in direct revenue.
- Massive Q4 Revenue Lift (2016): Driven by strategic content and category expansions, Q4 organic revenue jumped +81% for HBO Shop and +91% for Star Trek.
- $11.5k Audit Recovery (Q4 2015): Identified and resolved a site structure opportunity for the As Seen on TV store, unlocking $11.5k in incremental Q4 revenue. This was for the popular ‘Star Shower’ light show projector.
- Reusable Multi-Channel Assets: Created evergreen content modules and category pages that served as high-converting destinations for paid search campaigns, email blasts, social ads, and organic search for years to come.
